Smartweld

Smartweld

Aluminum is a bit of a wonder metal. Light, strong, and easy on the wallet. At Specialized, we’ve taken it a step further. Utilizing experience-specific tubesets, our patented Smartweld technology, and trickle-down technology from our top-level carbon frames we’ve created bikes that offer all the performance and looks you need without the heavy price tag. It’s everything you need to take you to the next level and still leave some extra change for a coffee along the way.

Smartweld Technology

Our patented welding technology allows for new levels of performance in weight, stiffness and compliance. By hydroforming the weld joints where more material is needed ,the rest of the tubes can be much thinner resulting in lighter weights and stronger bonds. Pretty smart.

Element of Comfort

Typically aluminum isn’t exactly comfortable. By employing a butted tube design, excess material has been moved out of low-stress areas where it’s not needed allowing engineers to create a natural compliance in the frame tubes. What does all this mean? Less abuse on your body and a smoother ride.

Pro-Level Performance

More material has been focused in the areas that matter. By bolstering the bottom bracket and headtube areas we’ve been able to create incredibly stiff frames that react to rider input instantaneously.

Attention to Detail

All of our aluminum frames are welded by hand and optimized for the rider experience. With performance details like tapered headtubes and internal cable routing, you can be sure to take advantage of the full line of Specialized innovation.

Team Alloy

Chuck Teixeira and Chris D’Aluisio are used to pioneering the cycling industry. With decades of experience building and developing bikes between the two of them it isn’t just carbon that gets all the glory. Their commitment to the benefits of alloy construction has yielded advances in tube shaping and construction methods that allow aluminum to not only exhibit its inherent stiffness, but also a compliance factor that is often missing from alloy bikes. By developing advances like Smartweld technology and innovative tube shaping methods, Chuck and Chris are making sure alloy’s future is brighter than ever.
